Sunflower honey

Categories: Bee products, Types of honey |

Honey harvested from golden yellow ray flowers of Shrovetide main plants – sunflower has exceptional healing properties and nutritional value.
Some sources tell that sunflower honey is not inferior to other honeys by the nutritional and medicinal properties. It should be noted that sunflower honey is superior to them in healing properties.

In Japanese schools, and since 2003 in schools in China, honey is in obligatory diet of schoolchildren in the amount of 50 grams per day. A significant proportion of honey, sold to schools in Japan, is the sunflower honey! U.S. and Canada with the transition to hybrid varieties of sunflower almost lost  sunflower honey today. Sunflower seeds are cultivated only in the southern regions, where a lot of sun and a favorable climate for this plant, of course, these areas are the producers of sunflower honey.

By the logic sunflower honey in these areas should be in every supermarket. But there is no!

There are two reasons why there is no sunflower honey in stores.

1.
Sunflower honey contains little sucrose and therefore quickly crystallized. In the liquid state sunflower honey is no more than 20 days. After crystallization, honey is like melted butter and if you want to pour it in consumer packaging, it must be heated to a temperature of 40 degrees C (104 F). Even at this temperature, there is a complete decontamination of vitamins that are in honey, with a temperature of 50 (122 F) degrees honey loses its aroma and antibacterial properties, at 60 degrees (140 F)  the enzymes destroy, and at a temperature of 80 degrees (176 F)  sugars break down and hydroxymethylfurfural is formed. Optimal storage temperature of the honey is from +5 to + 10 degrees C (41-50 F), but not above 20 (68 F) or below 20 degrees Celsius (-4 F). The higher the quality of the honey treatment, the faster it crystallizes. If bees are fed with sugar syrup, the result is a honey that contains no nutrients and which will not crystallize at all. Many people mistakenly believe that honey crystallizes quickly because beekeepers fed bees with sugar syrup, in fact it is exactly the opposite. Honey, produced by bees from the sugar syrup, does not crystallize at all over the years and is in a liquid state. By adding sugar in the honey, the mixture quickly turns sour. Feature of the real healing honey is its crystallization.

Of all the above was written, we can conclude that you can only manually package the sunflower honey, which   costs a lot for firms involved in packaging of honey. Companies who value their reputation, do not heat the honey for filling in consumer packaging.

Chemical composition of sunflower honey For comparison, the chemical composition of sunflower honey with the lime one. Many people believe that white honey is the best and has better performance. This is true, but not in relation to sunflower honey.
