Thyme or sage is a perennial aromatic and medicinal plant, which is the genus of the family of subshrubs. Thyme – is a perennial shrub, whose height does not exceed 35 cm (13.7”). Its stalk can be both upward and bumps. Branches erect or ascending. On the stems you can see the hairs that are most often folded down. Size of leaves is very diverse. May be different and their shape, but they are tough. The root is the woody and stem, but the flowers are collected in elongated or spherical inflorescences. The fruits are pods with 4 spherical nuts, which have the black and brown color. Corolla can be both white and pink or purple, but in all cases it is bilabiate. Stamen has 4 pieces. All of them erect. The shape of the cup like a cylinder. Outside cup is covered with hairs. You can see a flowering plant in the summer, in June – August. The fruits ripen in August – September.

It grows in the Ural, Kazakhstan, middle and northern belt of Europe, Armenia, Siberia, the Crimea. Favorite places are rocky and gravelly-lichen tundra, margin pine forests, sandy and rocky steppe, southern slopes, cliffs, desert grasslands.

It is bred by seeds or division of bushes. Land for cultivation must be well illuminated by the sun and protected from the cold wind. Since the seeds are small, they are sown close to the surface, no deeper than 1 cm (0.3”). You can sow them in the spring and late fall. For good germination it is required high moisture soil. You can see the first shoots in 2 – 4 weeks. Initially, their development is slow. Plant care is regular weeding and hoeing. As for the green of plants,  it is dried for whole summer season, beginning with the second year of life. For spices you can use herbs, torn when the tops of  thyme are flowering. This period is in June – July. For therapeutic purposes you use the flowering shoots. Seeds for planting are harvested in the third year of life, and when they get brown color. In the Middle Ages, it became known that thyme can be used to raise the vitality, as well as for the treatment of complex diseases such as multiple sclerosis , paralysis , muscle atrophy and leprosy.
